
Gloria J. Emerson, born to the Tsé nahabiłnii and for the Tó’ aheedlíinii clans of the Navajo Nation, is a visual artist, poet, and consultant in the fields of Indian education and art. She has worked for the Institute of American Indian Arts and the Southwestern Association of Indian Arts, as well as many other non-profit organizations supporting Indian education, social services, and the arts. Emerson was artist-in-residence at the School of American Research thanks to the Dobkin Family Fellowship in 2002 and Governor Bill Richardson appointed her to serve on the New Mexico State Arts Commission in 2003. In her book “At the Hems of the Lowest Clouds”, Emerson offers a subtle and inspiring view of the Navajo landscape through her poems, personal reflections, and paintings. She continues to inspire young minds and promotes the works of many Four Corners artists at ‘Ahwééh Gohwééh, her coffeeshop and gallery near Shiprock, New Mexico.
